three month anniversary.

three-month anniversary with melbourne.  and it is getting pretty serious ;). i continue to feel so alive, so at peace.  being removed from everything, everyone.  loneliness creeps up now and again but i’m in this wandering headspace, distracted by something, not quite sure what.  and i’m not quite sure i’m bound to find out anytime soon….

home sweet home.

first day my new home. 2.5 months after arriving in Melbourne and $7.5K in debt later, i have found my base, the start of a foundation in which my journey of self discovery will revolve around.  slightly stressed financially but reassured knowing that it is a small price to pay in the scope of my happiness.  after…

two months in.

two months young in australia.  and how amazing it still is. indeed it has been enduring to date.  exhilarating and emotionally exhausting at times.  i’ve definitely gone through the motions of disappointment, heartache, anger and now at standstill of being content.  my rollercoaster feelings have definitely been an adrenaline rush but i’ve come through it stronger and with the…

“remember, you are in australia for yourself”.

just when i was losing perspective again – i got this positive reinforcement from an old sock: “….remember that you are in australia for yourself.  this is an amazing time in your life and you shouldn’t limit [yourself].  this is a journey of self-discovery for you.  you probably felt [closer to him] because he was someone…

my australian home.

today, i regained my independence.  i made a decision with heart – my gut instinct.  i found a wonderful apartment – rustic, classic feel.  small and warm.  that feeling of home instantaneous when i walked through the door.  exposed brick kitchen and huge garden patio.  its exquisite.  and its my new haven in melbourne.  and my flatmate, she is…

the footy culture. and parading penguins.

two australian attractions that i have been anticipating since my arrival: footy (aussie rules football) and the penguin parade on philip island. footy – australia’s game. so it’s absolutely nothing like hockey or american gridiron but it is a sport that encompasses all the traits that comprise sport: patriotic pride, overzealous fans and intense competition.  to me, i felt…

anzac day.

anzac = australia & new zealand army corps anzac day is a national holiday that marks the corps attack at gallipoli, turkey on april 25, 1915.  in an effort to rally against turkey’s support of germany in world ward i the corps withdrew 8 months later after 8500 are killed (reference: the little book of australia by david dale, 2010)….

some of my favourite things.

it has been over a month since i landed down under.  so, here are some of my favourite things thus far: the greeting “how you going?” to me, it sounds like such a sincere hello. australian’s have this ridiculous eclectic and rustic beauty to them. how isolated this country is from the rest of the…

one month anniversary.

Amazing to think that one month ago today I arrived in Melbourne.  Tepid and excited, scared and nervous I was ready to begin my adventure.  Utterly clueless and with no plan, I have absorbed the transition with ease and comfort all due to my host friend who has made this place feel like home.  My days have…

australia’s soul.

I heard the greatest line today when talking about deciding on living in Melbourne vs. Sydney: “Sydney is the postcard of Australia, but Melbourne, Melbourne is its soul.”  Brilliant.
